Moving to a new home is fun and exciting. You get to start over and add your own personal touches to the rooms, while at the same time getting to reorganize all of your belongings, so everything is in place. Sometimes, though, you may not feel like you belong in your new home, especially right after your moving company in New York unloads your items and leaves. Now it is up to you to unpack and get everything put away.

  1. Clean before you unpack. Everyone has their own sense of cleanliness, and the previous tenant or owner might not have left everything spotless.
  2. Turn on your favorite music while you clean and unpack. Music helps keep you motivated.
  3. Make the beds. Find your sheets and bedding, and make all the beds. This way, you have somewhere comfortable to sleep when you get tired.
  4. Get pets settled. Set out food and water, as well as their bedding and a few of their favorite toys.
  5. Set up the bathrooms. Hang up shower curtains; put towels away, and so on.
  6. Get the Internet turned on. Not having the Internet can make you feel disconnected from your friends and family.
  7. Hang up curtains. When it gets dark, you probably don't want nosy neighbors seeing what you are unpacking and invading your privacy.
  8. Pick one room and make it your priority. Remove all boxes, put the furniture in place, and have at least one room completely unpacked and organized by the end of the day.
  9. Paint the walls, or put up removable wall decals if you are not allowed to paint.
